This feature was designed to be used on Sammy stations in the exam or treatment rooms. In many offices, the nurse or medical assistant enters information related to the patient and visit such as vitals, medical, and family hx as well as entering new prescriptions for the current patient, which then requires the nurse to exit SamNotesEHR/Sammy. The doctor then logs in with his/her credentials, finds the patient and loads e-prescribing. This requires too many clicks of the mouse.
The Switch User Setting along with the use of the fingerprint reader makes this a simple process.
Using the "Switch User" Feature
When a staff member is working with a patient in the treatment room and has completed their part of the visit documentation, the user will press a button titled "Log Off".
This will cause all SammyEHR applications to close. The screen will now EITHER:
1. Start the slideshow (add on feature), or
2. Show the Login Credentials dialog for the next person (doctor) to log in.
Using this workflow, SamNotesEHR, after log in, will open to the same patient the staff member was on when he/she clicked the "Log Off" button.
How to enable this feature
The activation setting is located in SamNotesEHR Settings: Go to Utilites & Prefs, Preferences and Setup Settings Column 4: Switch User Station #
- The default setting for this feature is N
- This is a PER Station setting
3. When this option is activated, there will be a 'Log off' button on the patient grid and also on the SamNotesEHR Ready screen
SamNotes Ready window
SamNotes Patient Grid
1. Clicking on the 'Log Off' will prompt the Log-off Screen
2. Click ANYWHERE on the screen for the password screen.
3. If Fingerprint reader is active, it will show Reader Ready. If Fingerprint reader is not active or plugged in, it will show Reader not connected
4. To unlock, the password for the keypad is the current date in MMDD format to load the SammyEHR login screen: Login with user's credentials or with the fingerprint reader.
Using the fingerprint reader will make this a one touch process!
5. If the user is logging in is a doctor, they will be prompted with an option to Start e-Prescribing:
6. This will start SamNotesEHR and e-prescribing (if YES was selected) with the patient chart that was loaded when the Log off button was clicked.
7. Should you decide you no longer want to use this feature, simply change the Switch User Station setting from Y to N in the settings.
